The History of Reedsville and the Story Behind Mudcreek Antiques, Crafts, and More
From Mudcreek to Reedsville, Wisconsin
Before it became known as Reedsville, Wisconsin, our community was originally called Mudcreek, named after the stream that runs through the area. In 1894, the town’s name was officially changed to Reedsville in honor of Judge George Reed. Decades earlier, in 1854, Judge Reed and pioneer Jacob Lueps purchased and platted the town’s original 56 blocks, helping shape the community that would become Reedsville.
The name Mudcreek may have disappeared from the town map, but its history continues to flow through the community and through our family.
Why We Chose the Name Mudcreek Antiques, Crafts, and More
The Mudcreek name has a special connection to our family. Our family farm is located north of Reedsville, near where the west branch of Mudcreek begins. Later, my brother and I purchased another farm where the east branch of Mudcreek runs through the property.
When it came time to name our new antique and craft venture, Mudcreek Antiques, Crafts, and More felt like a natural choice. The name connects our family history, the land, and the original story of Reedsville itself.
A Historic Reedsville Building Finds New Life
The building that is now home to Mudcreek Antiques has a history of its own. Originally constructed around 1939, the building served the Reedsville community in several different ways over the decades. Historically, the second floor was used as a funeral home, while the first floor operated as a furniture store. The property also included a feed mill that served the area's agricultural community. In 1999, the feed mill was lost to a fire. A smaller store was later added in its place to sell bagged feed and agricultural supplies. In 2020, Country Visions sold the buildings to J&B Enterprises of Reedsville. Following the sale, the building sat vacant for several years. Until, as you might have guessed, it transformed into Mudcreek Antiques, Crafts, and More, allowing the history to live on.
The Beginning of Mudcreek Antiques, Crafts, and More
Eventually, my wife and I began imagining a new purpose for this historic space: a place where antiques, vintage treasures, handcrafted goods, and local vendors could all come together under one roof. After months of planning, we were able to rent the store and begin bringing that vision to life.
Today, Mudcreek Antiques, Crafts, and More in Reedsville, Wisconsin, is once again filling this historic building with activity. Instead of allowing an important piece of the community to remain empty, we are proud to give it a new chapter while honoring the history that came before us. Our shop is filled with unique antiques, vintage finds, collectibles, handcrafted items, and ever-changing treasures from local vendors and dealers. Because our inventory continually changes, you never know exactly what you might discover when you walk through the doors.
For us, Mudcreek Antiques is about more than selling antiques. It is about preserving history, supporting local vendors, bringing new life to a historic Reedsville building, and creating a welcoming destination for our community and visitors to Northeast Wisconsin.
